Sassafras Gifts... Bringing southern tradition and the arts to your home...

Welcome

My name is Tamela Wheeler and I am a fiber design artist. I started Sassafras Gifts because I wanted to develop a business which offered unique and meaningful gifts. I learned from a very young age growing up in the south how important traditions are and how the arts of generations ago are passed down through the years. In our modern age, many of those arts are disappearing and it is the mission of Sassafras Gifts to keep them alive and strong.

The name Sassafras Gifts came from childhood memories of weekly visits at my grandmother’s house when we would dig up sassafras root and make tea. My southern heritage and traditions of the south are woven through every handmade piece and quality is of the utmost importance at Sassafras Gifts.

Daily Highlights

Recently I was aired on the Martha Stewart show.  It was such an adventure teaching Martha about the art of Temari.  She loved it so much, she gave me a 'special thanks' on her website.  Anyhow, the show aired February 5, 2007.  You can try visiting Martha's website to view clips from that show.  I know she had them posted at one point, but after her website was re-vamped, I haven't had the time to find a link to post on my webpage.  Let me know if you have any luck finding one so I can post it for my other web page visitors!
